Medicare ABCs

Part A (Hospital)

Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health services. Most people who have worked for at least 10 years under Social Security are eligible for Part A at age 65. If you're under 65, you may qualify if you have a disability or certain medical conditions. For most people, Part A is free. However, you may have to pay a deductible and coinsurance.

Part B (Medical)

Covers doctor's visits, outpatient surgeries, medical tests, and preventive services. Most people who are eligible for Part A can also enroll in Part B. There's a monthly premium for Part B dependent on your Adjusted Gross Income. You may also have to pay a deductible and coinsurance. Together A&B cover 80% of total health cost.

Part C (Medicare Advantage)

Medicare Advantage plans offer a comprehensive package of benefits beyond traditional Medicare, including prescription drug coverage, and often cover additional services like dental, vision, hearing, and even gym memberships. Premiums as low as $0/month.

Part D (Drugs)

Part D of Medicare is a prescription drug coverage plan. It's designed to help you pay for prescription medications that aren't covered by Parts A and B. Many Medicare Advantage plans include Part D coverage as part of their benefits package.

Medicare Supplement

Medicare Supplement plans, also known as Medigap plans, are private insurance policies designed to fill in the gaps of traditional Medicare coverage. These plans can help cover out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles, coinsurance, and copays.

Medicaid

Medicaid is a state-funded health insurance program for low-income individuals and families. Eligibility and benefits vary by state and county. Medicaid can sometimes help pay for Medicare premiums.
